You work hard to stay in shape all year round. You join the right gym to get a good workout and keep fit, and you have some extra motivation to get in shape leading up to summer. Having a fit body is especially great during the warmest time of the year. It helps you be active in the outdoors, and it helps you look and feel great at the beach or the pool.

Getting a great summer body is one thing. Maintaining it is another. You don’t want to let summer snacking undo the hard work you put in leading up to the season. To get the fuel you need for your summer activities and workouts, try these healthy summer snacks. They taste great and help keep you nourished.

Fruit Smoothie Pops

Making your own fruit smoothies is a great way to get vitamins and refreshment while controlling the ingredients and keeping the cost down. Turn those homemade smoothies into frozen pops for a nice cold snack on a hot summer day. One tasty recipe involves putting a large handful of baby spinach into the blender. Then add frozen pineapple chunks and blueberries. Top if off with a banana, and add a cup or two of water. Blend it thoroughly, then pour it into a popsicle mold.

Insert popsicle sticks and freeze.

Homemade Tortilla Chips

For a nice salty summer snack, try making your own tortilla chips. By making your own, you can experiment with flavors, save money, and control the type of oil and other ingredients that go into them. Just cut up corn tortillas into wedges, brush them with oil, and add the flavors you want. You can start with salt and a little lime, or maybe some chili pepper for added kick. Arrange them in a single layer on a cookie sheet and bake them until they are crisp and golden.

Guacamole

Want a great dip for those homemade chips? Mash some just ripe avocados and add cilantro, salt, and lime for simple and tasty guacamole. Eat it right after you make it for the best flavor and freshness.

Kale Chips

If you have a hard time eating your kale, even though it’s great for you, try making kale chips. They are a tasty and healthy summer snack. Wash and rinse the kale, then strip it off the larger stems. Coat them in a thin amount of oil (avocado oil is great), and arrange them in a single layer on a cookie sheet. Salt the chips and bake them at around 275 degrees until nice and crisp. Without burning them, make sure they get good and crispy. They taste great and practically dissolve on your tongue.

Fruit Salad

There’s nothing like a simple old fashioned fruit salad on a summer day. Pick some of your favorite fruits and chop them up into bite-sized chunks. Mixing up the flavors and textures really helps. Pineapples, bananas, and apples are a good way to start. Maybe add some blueberries for the extra vitamins. Squeeze on some lemon or lime juice for flavor and to help preserve freshness, and you have a great snack.

Yogurt

Get some protein with your summer snack ideas by adding pureed fruit or some natural maple syrup to plain yogurt. Plain Greek yogurt is a great base for this healthy summer snack.
