You may have been stalwart during the holidays and kept up your healthy eating standards by foregoing the sugary treats that were everywhere you went. If that is the case, congratulations on some exceptional willpower! For many of us, the post-holiday winter weeks mean finding healthy food alternatives to satisfy what feels like an incessant sweet tooth.

If you are experiencing the latter, check out these tasty snack ideas that you can enjoy during the winter months. All of them can help you to eat and feel healthy, and stay on track with your fitness goals.

Go with Yogurt

Even in the cold winter months, people still love to break out the cake and ice cream. If this makes you want to scream, take comfort in a little bowl of yogurt. Just add fruit to some plain yogurt for a healthy snack that gives you some protein and vitamins. Also, drizzling a touch of honey over the top offers the perfect amount of sweet to help cut cravings.

Guacamole or Avocado Dip

Bring healthy snacks to the big game or party to share. You can layer fresh salsa or other healthy ingredients with some avocado to add great flavor while getting a lot of nutrients. Or make your own guacamole with fresh avocados, diced onion, lime juice, and a little salt and pepper. Just be sure to pack some veggie sticks or healthy crackers as substitutes for chips.

Almond Bars

You can buy almond bars or make your own. If you make your own, you’ll be able to choose the ingredients you like best! Adding the fruit of your choice can also give a unique flavor to this portable and healthy treat. Not to mention, they also satisfy cravings to help you refuel after you come to boxing class! Try making a bunch on the weekend to give you a good supply through the week.

Hot Coco(nut)

On a cold winter day, nothing hits the spot quite like chocolate milk. You can come close, though, by adding interesting flavors to hot coconut milk. Try adding a little cocoa or even spices like saffron to give you some warm winter refreshment, and drink to your health.

Pop Some Corn

Popcorn is a great snack when you need just a little something. It also works well for parties and game time. Instead of adding tons of butter and salt, go with a little cayenne or sweeten it with a touch of honey. The popcorn flavor possibilities are endless!

Hummus

For a great source of protein and excellent flavor, dip veggies in hummus and you will be totally satisfied. This works well for snack time, game time, and as an appetizer at your next dinner party. It also works as a great snack before working out or boxing.

Fruit Pops

The winter chill might not have you craving a cold snack, but frozen fruit pops are always delicious. Pop a favorite fruit medley in the blender, pour them into popsicle molds, freeze, and enjoy. You can add some plain yogurt for a creamy version, too.

With a little imagination and planning, you can satisfy your winter snacking needs with great healthy alternatives. And when you eat healthily, you are always ready to come to boxing class and stay fit throughout the winter.
